[Young journalist Siwon Lee] After Cheonan and Asan in Chungcheongnam-do were designated as semiconductor backend materials, parts, and equipment (MPE) specialized complexes, expectations for expansion of the regional high-tech industry is rising. As demand for related industry’s expansion of production facilities and new hubs is expected to increase, the Cheonan 6th Industrial Complex — the Pungse-myeon area of Dongnam-gu, Cheonan — is attracting attention as a new industrial site. 

Cheonan and Asan are home to Samsung Electronics facilities and companies related to semiconductor backend processing. With a development of the AI industry as well as demand for HBM and high-performance semiconductor, advanced packaging is becoming increasingly important. 

7 regions of Cheonan and Asan are designated as semiconductor backend MPE specialized complexes. According to the plan, three hundred seventy billion KRW is planned to be government-financed and 400 billion KRW for 5 years by 2030. Through this, technology development, production capacity, and supply chain strengthening will be pursued. 

The semiconductor business cooperates with other industries for supply, manufacturing, automation equipment, and measurement. Based on these, if the business scale expands, factory construction or expansion and previous demands can affect cooperative industries. 

When considering new production bases, companies look not only at accessibility to major industrial hubs but also at land size, infrastructure, potential for future expansion, and logistics conditions.

Cheonan 6th Industrial Complex is a general industrial complex in San 51, Pungse-myeon, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, Republic of Korea. The total project area is approximately 966,633 ㎡, and around 633,160 ㎡ is used for industrial site. This is a Public-Private Partnership with Cheonan-si, which invested 20% of the business. 

The Cheonan Pungse General Industrial Complex linkage is also expected. The place is approximately 1,644,529㎡, which is around 408 acres. If the Cheonan 6th Industrial Complex is added, industrial land for manufacturing is expected to expand in southeastern Cheonan.

In an aspect of collaboration with production and logistics infrastructure and existing industrial complexes, cooperation with enterprise and industry is also receiving attention. 

Cheonan 6th Industrial Complex is constructed based on semiconductor materials, mechanical equipment, and components, as well as electrical and electronic machinery and equipment automotive parts. 

The business that examines creation or transfer of industry can check based on eligible Industries, desired area, supply condition. An industry that is planning investment in equipment or expansion of production can also think of the site as a new production base, according to a corporate’s explanation.

For traffic conditions, National Route 43 and Local Route 629 can be used including South Pungse IC and West Cheonan IC. 

Highway and arterial road accessibility is considered very crucial for raw materials procurement and product shipment in the efficiency aspect. 

The Cheonan 6th Industrial Complex is currently accepting pre-applications for industrial facility sites. Industries that want creation or transfer of industries can review the site based on eligible Industries, desired area, supply condition. 

While expansion of investment relevant to designation of specialized complex Cheonan and Asan semiconductor backend is being pursued, Cheonan 6th Industrial Complex will also attract manufacturers that look for new production bases based on the existing Poongse General Industrial Complex’s linkability and road accessibility.
