[Young journalist Kim Jiyul] Samsung Electronics is discussing installing “Perplexity,” an artificial intelligence (AI) tool developed by OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, in the “Galaxy S26,” which is planned to be released in the first half of next year.

Bloomberg reported on the 2nd, citing multiple anonymous sources, that some companies have come close to a broad agreement, including SamSung Electronics investment in Perplexity. 

Perplexity is an AI search application founded in 2022 by Aravind Srinivas and others from ChatGPT developer. 

This is a service that combines a search engine with an AI chatbot, and is famous for having received investment from Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, the largest e-commerce company in the United States. Samsung Next, the U.S.-based investment subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, and SK Telecom have also made investments.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung Electronics will release the settlement agreement of Perplexity, but the details of the matter are not decided, so there is room for change as the details have not yet been finalized. 

Analysts say that Samsung Electronics will reduce its dependence on Google and lay the foundation for cooperation with various AI developers like Apple. 

Sources said two companies are discussing ways of installing Perplexities apps and assistants on Samsung’s upcoming products and combine Perplexities search function into Samsung’s web browser. 

Also, they are discussing how to apply Perplexities technology to Bixby, which is Samsung Electronics AI voice assistant. 

Sources said Samsung Electronics is expected to participate as one of the largest investors in Perplexities new fundraising. 

Perplexity is said to be in discussion about raising $500 million(about 700 billion won) with a corporate value of $14 billion( about 19 trillion won). 

Samsung Electronics and Perplexity did not comment on Bloomberg’s request.
