[Young journalist Kim Jiyul] Donald Trump, the President of United States said the U.S is being unfairly exploited from other countries because of over drug prices and said that he will sign a tariff on drugs within the next two weeks

When Trump signed an executive order on promoting drug manufacturing at the Oval Office in Washington, D.C on the 5th(local time), he responded to the question of whether he had decided on the tariff rate and also the timing of the announcement. 

President Trump said that, “ We will make a big announcement next week regarding drug prices,” adding that, “Compared to other countries, we are being extorted very unfairly.”

Since last month, the U.S department of commerce has been investigating the impact of foreign drugs and semiconductors on national security under the President Trump’s direction 

 
The article 232 of the Trade Expansion Act allows the president to impose emergency import restrictions if imported products pose a threat to U.S national security. When tariffs on drugs take effect, they will be the third tariff by item after steel, aluminum, automobiles and auto parts. 

On the same day, President Trump signed an executive order to “deregulate procedures for essential drugs to promote domestic production,” instructing the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) to shorten the approval time for the construction of pharmaceutical factories in the United States.
